Imperfect Beauty

The stylistic value of Antonio Grimaldi originates in a magical combination of artisanal work and innovation. His philosophy consists of mixing tradition with innovation, reworking the concept of feminine beauty. Monumental, evocative and majestic: the Nike of Samothrace, the personification of victory, the goddess of freedom, is the concept around which the new Fall Winter 23-24 Couture collection is developed.

The winged goddess, wrapped in a light tunic that enhances the sinuosity of her body, represents one of the most well-known Greek masterpieces, a work in which technique and dynamism are concentrated.

“Inspiration comes from such a grandiose work that, though mutilated and scarred by time, has become an exemplification of classical beauty, a symbol of measure and ordered harmony. A figure that teaches us the value of imperfection. Although it was rediscovered without her head and arms, she retains her splendour, which is hereby enhanced. In an age when beauty has become an unattainable model, the Nike of Samothrace represents its authentic value, freed from the cage of perfection.”

Fascinated by the beauty of the Nike, Antonio Grimaldi has created his new collection of evening gowns: twenty-seven haute couture looks characterized by asymmetries and sinuous lines in constant motion, which in technique and dynamism hark back to the sculptural mastery witnessed in classical work.

Among the leitmotifs of the collection are capes – maxi or mini – supported by horsehair slats to create winged effects, enhance shapes and sculpt large swirls. The capes wrap around the bust and turn into large wings or fall to the ground.

The one-shoulder dresses complete the collection; skirts that open like petals from which bodices sprout, embroidered nude looks and bodysuits with all-over embroidery, mini-dresses with large tails and rounded volumes.

The colour palette alternates cool tones with warmer shades: wisteria, powder blue, avion, yellow and dark brown are accompanied by white, black, pearl grey and silver. Cady crepe, Moroccan crepe, and gazar return among the fabrics and materials, along with lamé and silk velvets, and leather.

Embroideries become luxurious and are applied inside the lapels of bodices or spread like a shower of crystals; made from hard resins, à jour embroidered threads, dégradé and 3D. Feathers of ostrich, swan, white peacock and marabou also decorate the garments.
