Vacheron Constantin begins a new chapter for the Overseas self-winding 35 mm model by introducing two high-jewellery versions for the first time, crafted in 18K white gold and 18K 5N pink gold, powered by the Manufacture movement, caliber 1088/1. Initially launched in 2023, the 35 mm Overseas case was designed as a watch for all discerning wrists, suitable for any occasion. Its more streamlined dimensions make it naturally comfortable to wear, while maintaining all the aesthetic codes and functional features of its larger Overseas models.

Vacheron Constantin has pursued excellence in gem-setting since the 19th century, when it added this craft to its métiers d’art. At that time, watches were not only kept in waistcoat pockets but also worn as jewelry and fashion accessories. The new Overseas Self-Winding 35 mm High Jewelry watch is decorated with a total of 1,430 diamonds (~12.58 cts) and features two cuts: brilliant and baguette.

The Maltese cross design on the bezel— a hallmark of the Overseas collection inspired by Vacheron Constantin’s emblem— is highlighted by 60 invisibly set baguette-cut diamonds (~ 2.28 cts). The invisible setting is particularly demanding for the gem setter, as it results in a smooth surface where the stones appear to float above the gold with no visible support. The gem setter first creates a framework of thin gold rails, only 0.2 mm to 0.4 mm thick, forming a secure grid that becomes hidden once the stones are inserted.

After building the frame, the artisan must carefully cut a tiny V-shaped groove along both sides of each diamond to match the size and position of the rails within a tolerance of just 0.02 millimeters. This ensures the stones sit flush, with no gaps, overlaps, or visible metal. This setting technique is so precise that it can take several hours to set just one stone.

Introduced in the 2023 Overseas collection, the 35 mm diameter case is designed not only for a modern look but also to fit any situation and be comfortably worn by everyone, regardless of wrist size. Its versatility is emphasized by the easy interchangeability of its diamond-set gold bracelet and two included straps: one in white rubber and one in shiny alligator leather.

Adding a vibrant splash of color to the otherwise monochrome palette of the watch, the white gold model features a striking blue alligator-skin strap, while the pink gold model is paired with a fuchsia-colored alligator-skin strap. Each is secured with an 18K white gold or 18K 5N pink gold pin buckle to match the case metal; set with 62 brilliant-cut diamonds (~0.33 ct), the buckle can also be swapped out to fit another strap of the owner’s choice.
